3. Use AppBackup to backup setting for your applications, just in case.

After back-up, copy /mobile/library/AppBackup folder to your computer

4. Use AptBackup to save the list of installed Cydia Apps.  Make sure to sync with iTunes after back-up (back-up is stored in iTunes)

5. If you use Categories there is no way to recover your settings (let us know if you know the method)

6. Sync your iPhone with iTunes last time

7. Use one of ours jailbreak guides (see list above)

8. After jailbreak use iTunes Restore to copy files back to your iPhone

9. Go to Cydia and install AptBackup, restore your Cydia Applications.

10. Copy all of the folders/files from steps 1,2,3 back to your iPhone.

NOTE:

  • if you use Categories you will have to rebuild them.
  • Also, all of your application icons will have slightly different arrangement on your springboard.
  • if you use Quick Gold make sure to update it, new version is available which fixes some minor 2.2 issues.

Parlez-vous iPhone? "Oui, oui" sez Google Translate.

With the iPhone having Web capabilities -- and Google offering a Web-based translation service -- you'd think using your iPhone to ask "Where's the men's room?" in a variety of languages would be a breeze, no?

Safariscreenshot082

No, indeed.  As

But because he's a software etc., Hutchinson hunkered down with a fellow programmer from the London office and coded up an iPhone interface for Google Translate.  It's actually a browsable option on Google, so there's no software to download/install.

Sez Hutch, "Google Translate for iPhone is optimized for speed, supports all of the existing Google Translate language pairs, and uses a client-side data-store on your iPhone to hang on to your past translations so you always have them at hand, even if you can't use the local data network."  Testing it on a trip to Austria and Italy, he found he could get between 200 and 400 translations in 1MB of data download, which amounted to about 400 phrases for less than $10 when roaming internationally.  (As usual, your mileage may vary.)

To access the iPhone version of Google Translate, go to www.google.com and choose the "more" tab, or go directly to translate.google.com in your browser.
